Information About the Cancer Centre
Opened in 1998, last year the Cape Breton Cancer Centre had more than 25,000 patient visits from residents of Cape Breton, Richmond, Inverness, Victoria, Antigonish and Guysborough counties.
Reported wait times at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre are better than Halifax and the national average. For Cape Bretoners, the Cancer Centre enables residents of the island to remain close to family and friends while receiving treatment.
Funding:
The Governments of Canada and Nova Scotia have committed to move forward with new equipment and an expansion of the Cancer Centre. The Cape Breton community must raise $2 million to allow for the Cape Breton Cancer Centre expansion-the first step in maintaining our strong local cancer service.
The Project:
Plans include the addition of a linear accelerator and one CT simulator used for radiation therapy treatment, as well as a building expansion to house the new equipment. In addition, surgical equipment that is used for cancer surgery and replacement equipment used for diagnostic purposes will be included.
